New high-speed train Velaro RUS was exhibited in Berlin09/29/2008 | On the 23rd September the first Russian high-speed train VELARO RUS was exhibited in Berlin in the framework of InnoTrans – International Exhibition for Transportation Engineering. The new train, which will be able to reach the top speed of 250 km/h, will be known as “Sapsan” (peregrine falcon). The name was chosen by the client – Russian Railways OJSC. Till 2010 Siemens will supply eight VELARO RUS to Russian Railways. |
At the turn of the year 2009 high-speed trains will enter service on the Moscow – St. Petersburg route, cutting travelling time almost by an hour. This will be followed by the Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod route deployment. 10-car trains will be manufactured at Siemens plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. Exactly from here three cars of the first Velaro RUS were delivered to InnoTrans in Berlin at the beginning of September. Afterwards they will be transported to Russia.
