“Coming out of our transition year in fiscal 2008, we confront new challenges in the macroeconomic environment. From our position of relative strength we intend to win market share profitably. Organic growth remains our focus, and despite the macroeconomic adversity we confirm our growth target. It has become clearly more ambitious to reach our income guidance for fiscal 2008-2009. But we stick to it.” Fiscal 2008 was for Siemens successful enough. In absolute terms, new orders soared 11 percent to over EUR 93 billion. Revenue rose 7 percent in absolute terms to more than EUR 77 billion. Total Sectors profit remained at last year's record level of EUR 6.5 billion. And worldwide, we created 17,000 new jobs. In the fourth quarter we beat our biggest competitor in the Healthcare Sector for the first time in our history and so captured the No. 1 market position. Besides, in fiscal 2008 considerable internal challenges in Siemens was completed. According to Peter Loescher thank to that the concern got prepared to a global economic downturn earlier than the competitors. “We will use this head start and the greater effectiveness of our organization to take market share away from them. In fiscal 2008, we provided convincing proof that difficult conditions cannot prevent us from delivering a fantastic financial performance”.
